  • at first this terrier looks shy, but the light shining in his eyes, on his wet nose, in the playful patterns of his fur, hint at a bright future for this little dog.

    Bright Eyes

    At first this little terrier dog looks a little shy, but the more I got to know him while creating this portrait, the more I saw the light in his eyes. His shiny wet nose, and his the patterns in his fur seems to echo a playful nature under the surface. I predict he is going to grow in confidence, and will have a bright, fun, and long life.

    I'm a Rainbow Too

    This dude… sometimes I think he is judging me. Other times I see a soft smile in his eyes. Creating colour portraits of white (and all black) dogs is never the easiest., especially on white paper. But the soft colours in the fur around his ears, eyes, and nose helped me elevate this artwork, The addition of his rainbow dog collar transforms a traditional looking pet portrait into a really cool piece of dog art.

    Long Haired Lover

    Colour pencil portraits can be a beautiful way to capture soft details like the gorgeous silken fur on this long haired Afghan Hound. I tried to capture movement and energy in the background and body… to contrast with the quite peace in this hound’s face and loving eyes.

    Black Velvet

    This border terrier with her regal pose and manner, still looks like she is ready to spring in to action if anyone disturbs her, or if they open a bag of treats. I loved capturing her soft velvet ear against the rougher fur that is so characteristic of her breed.

    It's a Mixed up Muddled up World...

    and so is this girl. Apparently she’s a cross of Chihuahua, Pug, and …Whippet! She looks like she has feathers in her hair, but those are her cute little fluffy ears. Creating this colour portrait was so much fun, her infectious smile, little pink tongue and bright intelligent eyes made me happy the whole time I was drawing her.

  • soft little guest from Brighton's rabbit hotel, gets his own special colour portrait, using shades of grey in his fur, and pinks in his bunny ears, and around his nose. Although he's face on in the image, one big shining bright eye is watching you.

    Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn

    A cute colour portrait of a girl bunny. I loved studying the shades of grey in her fur, the pinks in her ears and around her face. I haven’t spent a lot of time around rabbits, and I hadn’t realised quite how big and expressive their noses are. I guess those giant bunny ears always stole the show.
    I am really hoping to create more bunny art soon. Luckily I have a dear friend who runs a rabbit hotel in Brighton (they come to stay while their humans are on holiday). She’s invited me over to hang out with her hippity hop guests, and I can’t wait!

Each piece of art I create is a unique study of visual and emotional qualities.

I like to focus on details like the eyes, but also on unique physical characteristics like a soulful eyes, a happy smile, crazy curls, silky smooth fur, or mile long eyelashes.

But my absolute favourite thing is to get to know each animal’s unique personality and spirit.
Capturing the look they give you.
Seeing the side of them maybe only you know about.
Feeling the joyful nature they are bursting to share with the world.

Creating pet portraits is awesome.

I work on high quality papers, and generally use a mix of inks, artist quality colour pencils, and acrylic paints.
