The sketch pet portraits I create have a spontaneous quality to them.

Sketches enable me to get an overall sense of each unique pet.
I capture the essence of them, looking for a way to communicate their personality and character, as well as their physical looks.

I love to explore the bond we have with our best friends.
The look of trust they only give you.

Sketches are also great for the less formal moments in their life.
Sleeping in the most awkward position possible.
Smiling with their tongue out after a big walk.
Soaking up the sun on the edge of a fence.
Hiding under the covers, only a nose showing.

Sketches can also be a good solution for people who cannot supply clear, close up photos of a pet’s face.
I can capture their spirit, and honour the important role they have in you and your family’s lives, even without more detailed information.

I work on professional grade papers, with artist quality colour pencils,
picking one or two main colours to sketch with.

I often add more vibrant colour to a single feature, like their eyes, tongue, or the bed they are sprawled across.
