Black Magic

This colour portrait of a black cat with pale green eyes, is an example of Brighton based artist Linda Boucher's custom ordered bespoke pet portraits.

Black fur can be famously tricky to represent on paper, particularly in a full colour artwork, such as this little kitty cat’s portrait.
I have also noticed that a feline’s eyes can change colour, depending on the light, and if the flash on a camera was used when the photo was taken.
This little puss has distinctive pale green eyes in real life, and their owner sent me a few pics, and a good verbal description, so I could be sure to get that detail, plus the tiny details of white around the face, and chest, correct.

This was one of a pair of pet portraits I was asked to do. They were created for a two cat household, but the pair of pussy cats do not like to acknowledge one another, and do not share ‘space’.
I worked to ‘match’ the portraits, and I love the cats have such distinct expressions and personalities.
